Impressions: If visiting the Tampa area, a must visit for the poker player.
Games as a whole are very loose.
Atmosphere: Large room consisting of 30+ tables with an equal amount between 9 seated and 10 seated. For bigger tournaments, play is transferred to an adjacent building that is very nice. If you're a sports fan, seldom do they have more than one game viewing in a restricted area, as the televisions are showing simulcasts from many tracks.
The room is extremely loud because of the crowded space and many boisterous patrons.
Dealers: Extremely friendly dealers and very enjoyable to play with as a whole.
Food: Only coffee and sodas are comped.
Cocktail service is usually fairly fast and friendly.
The adjacent Gallery lounge as very good food, although the menu is very limited. On the weekends, recommend taking a break and go up one floor to the Sports lounge to eat. Highly recommend the smothered chicken dinner.
Service: Very seldom will one ever have to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table as of August 2007.
Comps: Free sodas and coffee and the occasional free poker mags is the extent of the comps at Derby Lane.
They have bad beat jackpots for ACES FULL of JACKS being beat by a better hand.
There is no admission charge on most days to attend Derby Lane Greyhound but if you're a regular poker player one can receive a card for free admission.
Happy hour 12-2 and 6-8 provides $1.60 draft beers.
