Finland Lotto
Finland's National Lottery has gone through several changes throughout the years since it debuted in 1970. The Finnish Lotto is a played once each week on Saturday. Players choose seven (7) numbers from a possible forty numbers (1-40). Veikkaus lottery officials draw seven (7) main numbers plus one (1) supplemental number. The supplemental or bonus number is used only to complete winning combinations for the 2nd prize(6+1) and the sixth place prize (3+1). Matching all seven numbers will result in winning or sharing the jackpot. Tickets cost €1 per line.
The Finland Lotto is reportedly the most popular lottery draw game in the country which also offers the multi-national Vikinglotto. While the Finland Ministry of the Interior, who oversees the state monopoly, Veikkaus, does not list a minimum age to play the game, those in the country must be at least 15 years of age to purchase tickets. In most cases, there is no income tax on lottery winnings in Finland.
While the lottery and other games are available online to players inside the country, the website has been blocked from foreign IPs since an August 2009 DDoS attack that crippled the site for several days. Lottery concierge or messenger services can still buy tickets in person or when otherwise within the country.
How to Play Finland Lotto
Simply pick seven (7) numbers from one to forty (1-40) for each of the lines you wish to play. Tickets cost €1 per line. You can choose the numbers yourself by marking them on a play slip or let the system pick six random numbers for you. For an additional €0.50 per line, it is possible to pick a Plus number which can multiply any prize, other than the jackpot, by a factor of five (5x). Two additional option bets are also available. Luck Holidays costs €0.50 per line and will award €1,000 if you match the random number. The Joker costs €2 and can award as much as €1,000,000.
You can also play "systems" and choose from eight (8) to eighteen (18) extra numbers. This can exponentially increase your chances to win, but will also cost more. For example, playing System 9 you will choose nine extra numbers which effectively creates 36 rows. The cost for this is €36. On the other end of the spectrum, you could play an additional 18 numbers that would give you 600 possible winning combinations for €600. The appeal of the system for some players is that it is an easy way to purchase multiple combinations by selecting only a few numbers, and every winning combination will be paid.
How to Win Finland Lotto
In order to win the jackpot prize, you must match all seven (7/7) of your numbers to the seven main numbers drawn from a pool of forty (1-40). If more than one person has a winning ticket the prize will be shared equally among all winners. If nobody wins the jackpot, it will roll over into, and increase before the next Saturday drawing.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 15,380,937.
The odds to match six main numbers plus the extra (6/7+1) are 1 in 734,426. The prize is often over € 100,000 but will vary depending on the preceding seven day's sales.
The third prize is awarded for matching six (6/7) main numbers with odds of 1 in 68,665 to win.
Match five main numbers (5/7) to win the fourth prize. The odds are 1 in 1,387.
The fifth-place prize is awarded when you match four numbers (4/7) with a 1 in 73 chance of doing so. The sixth prize is won by matching three main numbers plus the extra (3/7+1).
