Update: From "proposed" to "coming soon," on Nov. 4, 2024, voters overwhelmingly approved the city of Petersburg's proposed $1.4 billion casino project, which will be co-developed by The Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise. Approval of the Live! Casino Resort will bring a 92.5-acre resort complex to the city, located just off Wagner Road, behind the Sheetz convenience store. According to the official press release, construction will start after the vote is certified and all required approvals are received, with an anticipated opening date of the initial first phase casino in 2026.

In a unanimous vote on Dec 13, 2022, The Cordish Companies was chosen by the Petersburg City Council to develop a yet-to-be-named $1.4 billion casino resort in Petersburg, Virginia. To be located on about 80 acres along Interstate 95 at Wagner Road in the southeastern corner of the independent city in the Commonwealth, the Baltimore-based real estate development and entertainment operating company would reportedly develop the destination resort in three phases over the next 15 years. 

The world-class casino resort destination will reportedly feature more than 670,000 square feet of first-class gaming, hotel, dining and entertainment space, an upscale 200-room hotel featuring 20 suites, resort pool and fitness center, over 2,000 slots and electronic table games and 60 live action table games including poker and a sportsbook. Other amenities include a state-of-the-art event center for top name entertainment, meetings, conventions, and social gatherings, over a dozen best-in-class dining and entertainment options and free surface parking.
