A $100 million Ogallala, Nebraska casino proposal, Lake Mac Casino Resort & Racetrack, for a 174-acre site south of Interstate 80 and near Lake McConaughy,  was approved by city and county officials in late June 2022. The plan was developed in anticipation of the state legislature's authorization of additional casino licenses for racetracks beyond the original six approved in the 2020 voter referendum. Hastings Exposition and Racing is partnering with Iowa-based Elite Casino Resorts, LLC on the project, the latter of which has filed a casino application to build the Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park in Grand Island.

The casino, resort and racetrack will reportedly include 650 slot machines, 20 table games, a six-table poker room, a sportsbook, a hotel with 180 rooms and a full-service spa and salon. Additional amenities proposed are restaurants including fine dining, family dining, sports bar, and grab-and-go deli, an outdoor pool and a 10,000 sq ft convention center, a grandstand and racetrack with a 5/8 mile oval track with barns, paddock and jockey’s quarters, a full-service spa and salon, RV parking for 120, a high-end truck stop with parking for 100 semi-trucks, and more. 

There are currently six racetracks in Nebraska that are eligible for gaming facilities, with one additional possible for a location in the western region. The states legislature has directed the Nebraska State Racing and Gaming Commission to conduct economic and social impact studies to determine eligible sites for new racetracks, which must be completed no later than January 1, 2025.
