Macau Jockey Club & Racing Complex

Macau Jockey Club has been known by their current name since 1989 and has been  owned by a consortium headed up by Dr. Stanley Ho since 1991. There are two tracks here - a turf track and a sand track with a nearly equal number of races every year on each. 80% of the horses in Macau can handle both surfaces so the average starts per horse at the Macau Jockey Club is greater than in the U.S., Australia, or Great Britain.

Races are run in a clockwise direction with various distances from 1,100 meters to 1,700 meters. The turf track is on the outer ring, and therefore longer, with a total length of 1,600 meters as opposed to the slightly shorter sand track at 1,400 meters.

The four-storey Grandstand contains the press box and seating for up to 15,000 spectators, and is open to the public. Races are held twice per week, Fridays and weekends.

The club is one of the largest private employers in Macau with about 1,000 full time positions and 600 part time.
