2022 Updates: Grand Island Casino Resort temporary non-smoking facility opened on Dec. 27, 2022, and is located in the concourse of Fonner Park adjacent to the Van Berg Racing Collection and the Nebraska Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame. The interim casino features slots, table games, including electronic table games, sports betting, horse betting kiosks, simulcasting, a snack bar, bar and restaurant and Elite Casino's Resort Club.
Work on the permanent Grand Island Casino Resort began after the 2023 Nebraska State Fair ended on Sept. 5th. The project is expected to take two years to complete with the opening date sometime in 2025.
Elite Casino Restorts, LLC has been chosen to operate the planned Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park horse racing track in the city of Grand Island in central Nebraska. Plans for the property include a five-story 116-room hotel with an indoor and outdoor pool, full-service spa and salon, a range of dining options, including a rooftop Ruthie’s Steak and Seafood, and a show lounge that will play host to live entertainment on the weekend.
The casino floor will connect to the existing Fonner Park structure, and feature 650 slot machines, with the ability to increase that number by an additional 200 positions, as well as 20 table games, a VIP lounge and a high limit slots area, and a sports bar with a sportsbook.
Already responsible for a trio of gaming and resort destinations in Iowa, including in Iowa City, Davenport, and Larchwood, and a recently opened casino resort in Southern Illinois. Elite Casino Resorts expects the Grand Island, Nebraska property to be completed in 2023.

A high-end American steakhouse, Ruthie's Steak and Seafood sources the finest cuts of beef and seafood, with guests choosing from traditional steaks or chops of beef, lamb or pork prepared as cuts or on the bone. Fonner Park
Race Track
A Grand Island staple since the 1950s, Fonner Park is a thoroughbred horse racing facility that is open year-round. In addition to live horse racing, the 220-acre Fonner Park Complex hosts national livestock shows, the Hall County Fair, and the Nebraska State Fair. Annual events including concerts, entertainment, sports and athletic events, conventions, and trade shows are held in the Heartland Events Center’s Eihusen Arena. Located adjacent to the Eihusen Arena, the Bosselman Conference Center provides has facilities for meetings, wedding receptions, and banquets.
Adjoining facilities include the Fonner Park Race Track and nearly 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibition, livestock, and equine facilities, which are utilized for the Nebraska State Fair and throughout the year.
Fonner Park's live thoroughbred race meet runs from mid-February through early May. During live meets, visitors can enjoy craft shows, a variety of family activities, recreational shows and special races. Fonner Park also streams live horse racing from all across the U.S. in the Finish Line Restaurant.
