Curaçao Casino Update 2016

Curaçao is a small island just off the coast of Venezuela and was part of the Netherland Antilles until 2010.  Curaçao is now a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is part of what is known as the ABC islands.  Curaçao is one of the most famous Caribbean destinations for casino gambling, especially for Americans who enjoy Las Vegas-style casinos in a beach setting.

There are 12 top class casinos in Curaçao featuring slot machines, bingo, live gaming tables, bars, restaurants, and even live shows.  Curaçao's casinos tend to stay open until around 2 or 4 a.m., and often have a dress code, despite their relaxed atmosphere.  The biggest and best casinos in Curaçao are the Carnaval Casino at the Renaissance Curacao, Casino Awasa at the Otrabando Hotel and the Emerald Casino at the Curacao Marriot Beach Resort.

Despite the island's small size, for the past 15 years, the number of casinos in Curaçao has fluctuated between 12 and 13 with many observers saying there has been an oversupply of casinos in the country for many years.  The same is often said about sister island Aruba which also happens to have 12 casinos.  Bonaire, which is only 24 miles long has two casinos - so if you're going to the ABC's you will have no problem finding a seat at the tables.

Gambling licensing in Curaçao is overseen by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board which was not formed until 1999.  The legal gambling age on Curaçao is 18.

In Curaçao, there always seems to be more casinos for sale than there are on other Caribbean islands, probably due to the oversupply of casinos here.
