After Holland Casino Groningen on the Gedempte Kattendiep was destroyed by a fire on August 27, 2017, the following year, operator Holland Casino opened a temporary pop-up location at Sontplein, behind the kitchen boulevard. Accessible from the A7 highway and the center of Groningen, the casino is 2,200 square meters and features nearly 300 slots, electronic roulette and a dozen gaming tables such as American Roulette, Black Jack, Poker and Punto Banco. A designated Smoke & Play gaming area for smokers is also on site. There is also a bar & restaurant and a lively lounge that offers live entertainment performed by local musicians. 

Selected in Sept. 2023, the location for the permanent Groningen branch will be Business Park Ter Borch along the A7, on the edge of the municipality of Tynaarlo. The new facility at the business park is expected to open in 2027. The pop-up casino will remain open until a definitive new Holland Casino Groningen has been built.
