Dvin Hotel was purchased in 2003 by the Caucasian Communication Group Company for $3 million with a plan to invest $30 million in the Soviet era property and open a 5 star hotel by 2014. In May 2016 the Armenia government approved a $120 million plan to refurbish the erstwhile property with an expected opening date by 2019. According to local and international news reports, "The hotel will be converted into a resort with clubs, a swimming pool, retail stores, high-class restaurants, conference centers and a fitness area. A VIP casino is also included in the project plans".
