Cochise County Fair Racing Review Jump to comments
After a hiatus of several years, horse races have returned to the Cochise County Fair, which is home to a 7/8-mile dirt racetrack and part of the spring circuit. In April of 2016, Douglas, Arizona ran a two-day live race trials at the Cochise County Fairgrounds. The Cochise County Fair Association hosted the El Moro de Cumpas finals on May 21st and 22nd.
Bettors have better payouts at county fair races in Arizona as the racing associations are exempt from paying the state a percentage of the pari-mutuel pool.
Santa Cruz County and Graham County had live race meets in May 2016 as well, and it is expected that more county fairs will apply to the Arizona Racing Commission for permits to run live race meets in their communities in 2017.
