Cipriani Ocean Resort Residences & Casino Review Jump to comments
Update Dec 2022: After years of delays and current debates regarding whether or not to allow online casinos, Uruguay could soon have a new land-based casino. Initially announced in 2018 through Italian hospitality group Cipriani Group, the reconstruction of the former Hotel Casino San Rafael in Punta del Este was given the green light on Dec 14, 2022, by the Maldonado Departmental Board and will reemerge as the Cipriani Ocean Resort Residences & Casino. Phase one will reportedly focus on a hotel, and will take between two and a half to three years to complete. Phase two of the project, which includes the construction of three towers, could take between seven and 10 years.
According to the developer, the existing structure will be complemented by two luxury residential towers, featuring ocean and city views, restaurants, spa, pools, luxury retail, casino and a serviced beach club in the seaside resort city of Punta del Este in Uruguay.
The $450 million investment will reportedly see phase one of the Uruguay redevelopment due to start in August and will include the construction of 164 adjacent hotel suites followed by the addition of some 800,000 sq ft of residences. A provisional opening date had originally been set for sometime in 2021.
