After the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission voted to approve a gaming license for Linn County, clearing the way for a proposed casino in Cedar Rapids, Iowa operator Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC broke ground on the $275 million Cedar Crossing Casino on Friday, February 7, 2025. Twelve years in the making, the casino will be built on the former site of Cooper’s Mill hotel and restaurant just west of the Cedar River, near downtown Cedar Rapids.

According to reports, the proposed casino and entertainment center will include 700 slot machines, 22 game tables, restaurants, bars, an entertainment venue with a capacity of 1,500 people, an arts and cultural center, and a STEM lab for children. The project is expected to take between 18 and 22 months to be completed, with a New Year’s Eve 2026 expected.
