France-based casino operator, JOA Group, was selected in July 2024, from among six candidates by the City of Saumur as the delegate for the construction and operation of the first gaming establishment in the sub-prefecture of Maine-et-Loire in Western France. Casino de Saumur will replace the former Le Palace cinema that closed in 2017. The municipality of Saumur acquired the 3,000 square meter building on Quai Carnot opposite the Loire, a two-minute walk from the city center, at the end of 2023 for 850,000 euros to create its future casino.

The owner/operator will reportedly (initially) install 125 slot machines, 17 electronic gaming tables, and 4 other tables dedicated to roulette, poker and blackjack games. A restaurant and entertainment/show area with 80 to 100 seats will also be set up on the premises. A March 2026 opening is anticipated. (Saumur is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France.)
