Casino da Póvoa is located in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal about 30 km from Porto and 20 km from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. The property is considered  the "Casino of the North".  Construction began on February 28, 1930 and the casino opened in 1934. Casino da Póvoa is licensed to Varzim Sol, whose majority shareholder is Estoril Sol - a company controlled by Dr. Stanley Ho and Pansy Ho. Additional Portuguese casinos controlled by Estoril Sol are Casino Estoril and Casino Lisboa, each in their respective namesake cities.

The casino floor covers about 27,000 square feet and holds about 700 slot machines and 20 table games. Hotel Mercure, with over 200 rooms is attached to the hotel and there are several dining options on the property including the upscale Cafe Egoista, Slot Bife, and two buffets. The casino is open 4pm until 4am in the summer months and 3pm to 3am weekdays and 4am-4pm weekends in the off season. 

Entertainment venues include the Atrium Piano Bar and Salon D'gold which features live performances, theater, and comedy shows. It is also a rentable venue for special occasions.

Slot Steak or Slot Bife is now open in the balconies area of Casino da Póvoa every evening except Mondays from 8pm until 11pm.  The atmosphere is fun and exhilarating and the menu offers such fine fare as Bife Parmegiana com Batata, Molho, Queijo (Steak with Parmesan Potato, Sauce, Cheese Mozzarella and Grated Cheese) and Bife Cogumelos com Batata e Molho (Steak with Mushroom Sauce and Potatoes) as well as a luscious beer suaced steak with the chef's special potatoes. Rice dishes are also available as well as a small array of complements and beverages.

Egoísta (Selfish) Restaurant

Egoísta is a restaurant located on the second floor of Casino da Póvoa. It was designed by architect Miguel Esteves, and is surrounded by his art gallery. Works residing in the gallery are from such esteemed artists as Júlio Resende, Nikias Skapinakis, Rogério Ribeiro, José Manuel Ciria, Francisco Simões, Alberto Carneiro and Moita Macedo.

The fare here is a collection of works of art as well with variations on traditional Portuguese cuisine. A truly unique venue,  dining at Egoísta can not be missed.

Buffet Land and Sea

Buffet Land and Sea at Casino da Póvoa is open from 8pm until 11pm daily and serves an international buffet of fine flavors and textures. The pricing is quite reasonable and discounts will be applied if you use Club In points. For instance, dinner without drinks will cost € 25.00 or € 16.00 + 100 pts. Club In (without drinks). If you would like to enjoy two glasses of wine with your meal the cost is € 28.00 or € 18.00 + 150 pts. To enjoy dinner and drinks for no cost at all, simply surrender 1,000 points.

Buffet Alibabar

Buffet Alibabar at Casino da Póvoa serves buffet dinner from 8pm until 11pm daily. Two of the most popular items on the menu are Biscayan Cod and Curry Lamb. The price here is much more reasonable than the other buffet options with dinner only costing € 12.00 or € 6.90 + 25 pts. Club In (without drinks) or € 15.00 or € 8.90 + 50 pts. Club In (2 glasses of wine included). Dinner and drinks are free when you spend 500 rewards points.

Atrium Piano Bar at  Casino da Póvoa is open on Saturdays from 10:30pm until closing and provides visitors a lovely atmosphere in which to enjoy drinks and traditional Portuguese snacks including folhadas , croquetes, pastéis and bolinhos de bacalhau while enjoying the smooth and mellow tones of classic tunes from a variety of genres on the magnificent grand piano.
