A major development, perhaps the largest of its kind in the world,  has been underway in the Koh Kong province of Cambodia since ground was broken in 2008 that includes a casino which may bear the name Angkor Wat on Sea according to some reports.

No numbers are yet available for defining the casino's offerings but indications are that it should open well ahead of the total completion of the resort, which could take 25 years.

A small hotel and three 18 hole golf courses are already open and a sales office opened in Phnom Penh on March 31rd, 2015.

According to an earlier release on construction-property.com in relation to a 2014 golf match held there, "The Dara Sakor Golf Club is Cambodia’s first international golf club with a total of 54 holes; an 18-hole Ocean Course, an 18-hole Mountain Course, and an 18-hole Links Course. The 135-hectare, 18-hole Course #1 is both the first seashore and illuminated course in the nation. The club has fully-equipped club houses, a professional team, practice courses, a resort, and a course management center."

At build-out the resort is expected to come in at a cost of between $3.8-$5 billion. China's Union Group is spearheading the project, developing as much as 20% of Cambodia's coast line in the endeavor.

The development will cover at least  36,000 (139 square miles) of land in Botum Sakor and Kiri Sakor districts, including parts of the Botum Sakor National Park near the Gulf of Thailand. Concession of the land on a 99 year lease was made in April 2008. The Cambodian  city nearest  to the project is Sihanoukville.

The mega complex will also have a port for cruise ships, an international airport, golf courses, apartment buildings and hotels to provide entertainment and comfort to foreign tourists. Some reports put the size of the resort at “…half the size of Singapore.”
