Located in Miami Gardens, next door to Sun Life Stadium and just 20 minutes from both Miami International and Fort Lauderdale Airports, Calder Casino is owned and operated by Churchill Downs Incorporated. The South Florida city has had racing for decades and while simulcast facilities and the poker room closed on June 30, 2014, Calder has offered live Thoroughbred racing every October and November since October 2014 and according to the management will continue to do so. The last day of racing at Calder is around November 27 and at that time goes to Gulfstream Park. Live racing at Calder is managed by The Stronach Group (Gulfstream) and is offered from Wednesday through Sunday with an approximate 1:15pm post time and typically ends around 5:30pm and 6pm.
The casino was added to the venue in January of 2000 and features over 1,100 slots, video poker, and video blackjack machines. There are two restaurants and a bar on premises and the casino is open 24 hours on weekends.

Calder Race Course
Race TrackThanks to real estate developer Stephen A. Calder back in 1965, the Florida Legislature approved a bill authorizing summertime thoroughbred racing in Florida. He opened his track on May 6, 1971, and the rest, as they say, history. Some of the most notable races held here include the Princess Rooney Handicap, Carry Back Stakes, and the Smile Sprint Handicap. The course was purchased by Churchill Downs in 1999 and has since produced several Breeders' Cup champions and Eclipse Award winners.
