Artichoke Joe's has been a Sammut family business in San Bruno, California since 1916. What started out as a one room pool parlor and telephone exchange (think horse racing) finally got a name in 1921 when Joe Sammut was asked how he would pay  if he lost one of the big bets he always accepted, no matter how large. Legend has it that his response was, "In artichoke leaves," and thus the name was coined and the legend was born.

From a one room parlor in a former plumbing shop nearly 100 years ago, to the 20,000 square foot casino of today, we see a San Bruno institution still owned by the Sammut family. Today we see a casino with thirty-eight gaming tables featuring games against the dealer and deck such as Pai Gow poker, Cal Blackjack and 21st Century Baccarat 8.2 along with tables spreading Seven Card Stud, Texas Hold 'Em, and Omaha Hi-Lo Split.

Artichoke Joe's is open 24/7/365 and features a rustic sports bar and an Asian/American dining menu with 160 items. The 24 hour dining is the only all night Asian restaurant in town.
